On Tuesday, May 9, The Airdrie Chamber of Commerce and the City of Airdrie will be hosting a provincial candidates' political forum at the Bert Church LIVE Theatre starting at 7 p.m.

Marilyne Aalhus, the Executive Director for Airdrie Chamber of Commerce underlined that this forum is a way for residents of Airdrie and the surrounding areas to have a chance to be informed before heading to vote.

"It's an opportunity to really take this to heart and understand what party you would like to have represented [for] yourself and in your community. It is an important part to go out and vote and take this piece of being educated and informed before you vote. A forum like this gives you that opportunity firsthand."

According to the Airdrie Chamber of Commerce, the candidates running in the ridings of Airdrie-East and Airdrie-Cochrane that had registered as of May 2 had confirmed their attendance. The candidates' forum will include:

    • Sitting Airdrie-East UCP MLA Angela Pitt
    • Sitting Airdrie-Cochrane UCP MLA Peter Guthrie
    • NDP candidate for Airdrie-East Dan Nelles
    • NDP candidate for Airdrie-Cochrane Shaun Fluker

"The goal of the forum is to encourage open dialogue with candidates as they voice their priorities for Airdrie residents and businesses," The Airdrie Chamber of Commerce stated on its website.

Questions for candidates will address provincial issues specific to the growing community of Airdrie and topics outlined in Vote Prosperity, the Alberta Chambers of Commerce (ACC) platform of business priorities for the next Alberta government.

Participants are asked to prepare their questions and hear introductions and statements from your provincial election candidates. However, live questions from the floor will not be taken and the public is urged to submit their queries in advance through the event registration comments section or through a written question at the event. All questions will be reviewed in advance prior to being asked. The Chamber noted that not all questions may be asked due to time constraints or the nature of the topic.

The event will be livestreamed online and a recording will be available shortly afterward. This event is free to the public.

Please note there is limited seating in the Bert Church Theatre. Attendance is based on a first-come, first-serve basis.
